Going backwards for a change and the laugh is on us . . .

The laugh is on us because we stumbled on the Westbury White Horse just out of, you guessed it, Westbury. Wiltshire is littered with white horses made by removing vegetation from the chalk soil/rock. Most “famous” is the Uffington White Horse, supposedly of neolithic origin. In the 1950s, this equine image was covered in white concrete so that the lazy locals didn’t have to trim the vegetation from time to time – cleaning the white concrete is much easier.
We were returning to base after an afternoon spent wandering the beautiful gardens at Stourhead.

We were in good company . .

Returning to base from . . . .

Gracing the outer close, formerly a graveyard, of . . .
The awe-inspiring Salisbury Cathedral . . .

The foundation stone was laid in 1620 and construction was completed in 1658.

The baptismal font

And of the Audley Chapel, a so-called chantry chapel, constructed at the direction of Bishop Audley with donor funds, The expectation was that, after the donor’s death, prayers would be said in the chapel to expedite the journey from purgatory to heaven,
PS at this point – thanks to the person who showed me how to trigger the phone remotely 😘

And last stops at . . .
