A day in Cairngorm National Park- 2 October

Once again the rain held off and we headed for Cairngorm (Mountain) – forecast 4 Celcius max, windchill -3.

Mode of transport – ingenious “funicular” railway – two cars with the mass of one descending “pulling” the other up providing 75% of the energy required.

We enquired about the walk to the summit but 100km/h winds and 4 degrees feels like minus 4 was a definite no, down we went to Glenmore Visitor Centre and a 7km walk around Loch Morlich.

Scots Pine forests . . .

Uprooted and re-established?
And beautiful dappled light (always enhanced by the travelling companion 😊)

And beaver country – no beavers spotted 🥲

And fungus habitat . . .

My favourite 😊

Duck convention on the shore of the loch

A moment to sit and contemplate – #42

On our return to the visitor centre we chatted to a couple of veterans who were preparing a memorial observance with family of a Norwegian who had served with Kompani Ligne, Norwegian (SOE) special forces who had lived and trained in the area around Glenmore and Aviemore during World War 2.
