Mull with Klay from Nature Scotland – 25 September

Leisurely start to the day – 10am!!! – and the day broke bright and beautiful.and Tobermory was postcard perfect . . .

Klay took us in hand – VW with 8 pax plus driver – first stop was to scan the hilltops for white-tailed or golden eagles. This guy was remarkable – he would spot things that most of us couldn’t see with the naked eye.

But the otters were being elusive . . .

At the head of Loch Na Keal – could that be Staffa on the horizon – seen but not touched
An area known as The Wilderness – but don’t tell the local residents
The obligatory fungus . . .
Definitely a White Tailed Eagle – lots of Golden Eagles but none close enough to photograph
Ben More – at 966m the highest peak on the island and the only Munro on Mull
Sad relic of the clearances – a crofters cottage in ruin
Red deer hind keeping a close eye on us . . .
Three Lochs – Loch An Eilein
Our fellow passengers had eyes only for the avian features – I guess the landscape was not such a novelty for them
Birds on a Wire – a flock of starlings

And then Klay set off for the deer meadow in the hope that the stag would “perform” – sadly for him the hinds weren’t having any of it 🤣

And didn’t he tell the girls what he thought . . .

One more lighthouse – Eilein Glasa in the Sound of Mull
The rain did hold off for most of the day
