Gap of Dunloe – Killarney National Park – 16 September

Today was a day breathing in the mountain air – some say the Gap of Dunloe features some of the most breath taking landscapes in all of Ireland . . .

Picked up by another friendly Irish bus driver to meet up with the rest of the tour group . .

There were some very serious fisherpersons/men (I did not see any women among them) – one or two could barely walk for all the kit they had strapped to them
Tim, our jarvey and our first pony – Tim said he was being lazy so he swapped him for a mare, Dolly – he has 9 horses in all, 5 of which he works on the jaunting carts
And talk of being lazy but I don’t think we would have lasted the 10km

After we walked most of this section, to make it easier for Dolly, Tim said we could say we had walked the Gap of Dunloe 😊

Tim and Dolly – Dolly and Tim – salt of the earth – he said he has been doing this, working with horses for 42 years – before the jaunting carts his father took people on horseback over the Gap – from the age of 7, Tim’s job was to lead the horses for the less accomplished riders

And returned on a “traditional” boat via the three lakes to Ross Castle

Just for Beej – a short walk to Torc Waterfall – running a torrent after the rain of the last couple of days – and don’t we know about it!
