UNESCO Global Geopark – The Burren

A landscape like no other – shaped by moving landmasses, glaciers, human influence and time . . .

11 September . . . . .

Black Head light and the Burren landscape

So we dawdled on down to . . .

Along with one or two other people . . .

O’Brien’s Tower atop the cliffs

We were told by one of the rangers that the sea mist would “burn off” but we didn’t hang around to see

Clint (flat top) and grike (channel between the clint) in the burren landform

And so on home via Corcomroe Abbey and The Burren Perfumery . . . . .

5000 years ago . . .

Poulnabrone Wedge Tomb

And, of course, another religious site – Franciscan this time, but was repurposed as a gaol and Church of Ireland (why build your own when you have one ready made – Ennis Friary

Stop for lunch and visit to weaving/knitting studio in Tuamgraney, lunch and just another bridge – O’Brien’s Bridge in, you guessed it, O’Briensbridge-Montpelier

Shopping and feet up and a nip of Old Bushmills . . .
