Our morning excursion with Tahir, our guide of 44 years took us to the ancient Roman city of Ephesus. While the history of the city predates the Romans, destruction of a previous city on the site has left little archaeological evidence.
A map of the site is useful (for me) to locate the photos.

The main purpose of our visit was the terrace houses of the Roman elite – on the map shown as Hillside Houses. In many ways they resemble the excavations of Herculaneum and Pompei.
As with most sites in the region cats rule, this one looking very much the guardian of Ephesus . . .

Aargh – people and lots of them, and this is just the start of tourist season!!

I can’t understand why, but this seems to be what most people come to Ephesus for – the Library of Celcus – impressive huh . .
