After a flight from Hà Nội with Thuyen and Ut giving up their exit row seats for us, arrived at Sofitel to a hero’s welcome – ha ha! These guys really know how to do hospitality.

During dinner we were treated to a 45 minute Apsara dance performance. The dance form is at least a thousand years old as it is frequently depicted on the bas reliefs in the Angkor temple complex.
As you might guess the dance form accentuates movement of hands, arms and feet and is very slow and controlled (except when Hanuman becomes amorous – see below).




The next dance is based on themes from the Ramayana – a courting dance Hanuman and Sita?
