Production of golden silk was endemic to Cambodia prior to the years of the Khmer Rouge regime (1975 – 79) is is slowly being rejuvenated after almost being wiped out in those years – a visit to the Killing Fields (one of ca. 360 such locations) and one of the most infamous of prison/interrogation locations is a story for another day and one to be shared privately! Among others, a sobering statistic – there were only 12 doctors alive in the whole of Cambodia in 1979.
This business is one of several which is community operated from moth to finished product. Just a few photos to show.
Footnote: Renee & Bruce – far better working conditions than we saw in Varanasi – I suspect the finished product is not quite as fine – no real temptation to buy!!!
