Angkor Wat – 18 March 2023

UNESCO World Heritage location number ?? Another bucket list ticked off.
This post will be mostly photos because the commentary from Raksa, our resident expert, was so comprehensive that I can’t remember it all and would only bore you anyway.
The temple, actually a complex of temples, was constructed in the reign of King Suryavarman II (1113 – 1150) as a Hindu temple and abandoned in the 15th Century – never fully apparently – after conversion to a Buddhist temple towards the end of the 12th century, it remained a place of pilgrimage for people of that faith.
